Salt to the Sea
Salt to the sea, a fictional book by Ruta Septeys, is an amazing book exploring the hardships that Joana, Florian, Emilia and Alfred (the four protagonists) must endure during WW2 as their stories intertwine when they embark the Wilhelm Gustloff in hope a chance to get away from all the personal horrors they have survived.
This book has taught me a lot about some of things that occurred in the war but isn't taught in history lessons, especially the sinking of many boats like the Wilhelm Gustloff and the amount of people who tragically died due to this. Additionally, it was interesting to explore the sometimes opposite perspectives of the four protagonists who all suffered in different ways as they were on either sides of the war, but all ended up in the same place and had to overcome their differences to help each other and survive together.
