The Stars at Oktober Bend

I have finished all of the Carnegie books and, along with Salt to the Sea, this is my favourite.

I really enjoyed the book and I found that the two main characters were really intriguing and I kept wanting to know more about them both. The book is told by two people, Alice and Manny, who were both troubled from their earlier life.

Alice has slurred speech and when that particular section is being told by her there are no capital letter which I think was to try get across her problem. I found this quite hard to deal with at the beginning but, as I read more, it helped me appreciate the poetic style more.

The plot was really well constructed, the ending was pleasing and I found there was always something happening that made me want to read more.

I really liked Bear. I thought it was a great name for a dog . At first I thought an actual bear was following her around which was quite funny!
