The Smell of Other People's Houses

From what I have read of the book so far (over halfway), I found the book very interesting. I liked the 4 different point of views and how they intertwound with each other. I have read books with 2 different point of views before but not 4, so I found it different to other books.

I found the beginning of the book gripping and the author clearly illustrated the characters' backgrounds. The style of the book was easy to understand, however there were a few words that I didn't understand.

The setting of the book was shown clearly but I was unsure of the time it was set in. The blurb does mention that it is set in 1970 however I found it hard to see that it was set in those times throughout the first half of the book.

Overall, I really liked the characters. To be honest, I found it hard to picture these characters in my head. I found them all realistic. Also, I liked all the characters so much, I am not sure which one is my favourite.

I found the pace of the story fast enough to maintain my interest, however some points of the story were quite slow. I also liked the cliff-hangers as they maintained my interest too.

I think the book could be improved by revealing more of the characters in terms of descriptions of their looks.

I would recommend this book to other pupils as I think they will interested in what it is about. I think this book is interesting for everyone.

I would give this book a 8/10 as I found the overall style easy to understand and I liked the characters. However, I think that some things, such as the time and descriptions, need to be illustrated more clearly.
