Megan, Long Stratton High
After the Fire
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the character Moonbeam because she was very curious and discovered what her mother and father had led her to believe was a total sham. I didn't like Father John, however, as he was portrayed very realistically as a controlling character. He didn't like anybody speaking against the word of The Lord, because he believed he was 'The Lord'. He also enjoyed giving out punishments that were highly unjustified.
Furthermore, I also liked the before and after sides of the book. They gave the book more depth and, even though it had a change of time, the book flowed very well. In the present day I really enjoyed how Doctor Hernandez and Agent Carlyle had very contrasting views but they always seemed to please Moonbeam, even if it is just their quirky natures and a listening ear.
I think this book is a good contender for the Carnegie prize.
