Mrs Lees, Chobham Academy Book Group
This is an emotionally challenging and contentious read, the subject matter being one that will raise concerns and debate over its suitability for inclusion in a children's book award. However, the traumatic, despicable and catastrophic abuse suffered by the protagonist is fundamental to the story and it could not be the book that it is without it. I found Beck to be ultimately a tale of survival, redemption and love that I would highly, but not lightly, recommend.
