The Smell of Other People's Houses
This is a good book to find out about what life was like living in Alaska in the 1970's - a very different world from what the majority of us encounter every day.
It's written from the perspectives of four young people, some of whom are natives of Alaska and others whose family moved to live there. This can lead to a little confusion about who is writing what, but as the story progresses things begin to make more sense. I won't say too much more, as I don't want to spoil the story for you!
It's certainly interesting to read about the struggles that people have to face in such a remote part of the world and the author writes from a clear knowledge and understanding of life in Alaska.
It's a very different book because of the setting, but certainly worth a read.
