Miss Edmonds, St Mary's Shaftesbury
The Smell of Other People's Houses
I would never have read this book if it hadn't been on the shortlist. However, this is the joy of Carnegie - discovering new books, new authors and new genres.
I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of Alaska and found it easy to empathise with the narrators. The individual tales are cleverly constructed and come together in a very believable and touching way. I won't give too much away about the plot, read it for yourself and enjoy this gentle, clever tale which gets right under your skin.
