Anna, St Helen and St Katharine
Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
This book surprised me a lot. I picked it up and looked at the cover and thought, “Wait, what age is this aimed at? From the outside the book looks like it belongs in a pre-school but inside it is a rather sweet story about a little boy who does not speak, a Grandpa who doesn’t remember and a dog/alien who does not know much about humans. In spite of the sweet plot line (and it being the first Carnegie book that did not make me cry) I didn’t greatly enjoy this book. I think it is because I could not really connect with the characters and that is what I look for in a good book. Their descriptions were too basic; a girl who wants a pet, a quiet boy, a friendly boy. Overall I would recommend this book to 8-10year olds or someone who is looking for a quick read.
