Mrs M, St Mary's School
I liked this book from the start with the first line ,it captured me straight away.I enjoyed the historical references to the area in which the story is set and about the vivid descriptions about WW1 ,albeit brief .
The author has created some wonderful and charming characters especially Annabelle .She is clever ,smart ,hard working and protective of her younger siblings and wants to improve her life and is "hungry for change" .Suddenly her life changes considerably because of the arrival of a girl called Betty .What follows is her way of dealing with growing up and beginning to make decisions for herself in a mature and less than honest way .I hope this has whetted your appetite to read it ?
I give it 8/10 .
