Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
Frank Cottrell Boyce is a prolific writer, he wrote this weeks Doctor Who episode and has won this prestigious award .In this book he has tackled the heart breaking illness of Dementia and how it affects so many peoples lives .
Prez is the young boy who is unable to be looked after by his grandad any longer because his grandad can't look after himself anymore, sadly.
So Prez is sent to live with a foster family who create a caring and understanding place to live ,although Prez knows it's only temporary .Prez has chosen not to utter a word and is probably traumatised by his situation .
Then Sputnik arrives he has been sent from space and Prez is his mission .Adventures then follow because Sputnik has superpowers .....
I couldn't help feeling very sad during this novel but equally there were some hilarious sections too .
I felt full of admiration for the foster family and how wonderful they were at accepting Prez into their family .
The book was quite "wacky" for me but different and inventive .I give it 6/10
