I chose Railhead as my second book to read for the Carnegie shadowing programme after reading Sputnik’s Guide to Life on Earth, and in all honesty I was not looking forward to it as my friends who started reading it said that it wasn’t very interesting and they put it down within the first few chapters. But as I started reading it, I loved the story! It is about a teenage thief named Zen Starling who gets chosen to retrieve a special item from a rich train, being joined by Nova, a robot, all whilst being watched by drones and the all-powerful Malik. I think Philip Reeve has done really well on this book as it was so interesting and a fun read. The only warning I would have is that it is quite descriptive so if you are a reader that prefers not much description but a lot of action, then maybe this isn’t the best book for you. I would personally recommend it to Year 7+ as the story itself is a bit complicated but that shouldn’t put you off because once you get into the book it is very hard to put down. A great read and an excellent book!
