Miss Truman, Leventhorpe
The Stars at Oktober Bend
This is a wonderful and original read with a unique narrator's voice through the characters of Alice and Manny. Alice has brain damage after being brutally attacked at the age of 12 and the novel charts her growing friendship with Manny - a boy who equally has had a brutal start in life in Sierra Leone. Alice's inability to talk clearly and easily is beautifully captured in her poetry that reveals the depths of her understanding and paints a picture of her world that is both beautiful and sensual.
I've loved this novel and can't wait to see how it finishes!
