Emily, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls
This book was a very refreshing change after reading some of the other shortlisted books that are maybe aimed at slightly younger readers. I enjoyed the more complex use of vocab, and found the story to be very interesting. The emotional account of Beck's treatment when he was younger sparked many emotions and I think that the first half of this book is really well written and engaging. However, the second half of the book failed to keep my attention and I felt that whilst the ending was a nice resolution to Beck's harrowing early life, it was rather unrealistic and predictable.
