Salt to the Sea
Whilst this is very well written, beautifully descriptive and very moving - I don't think it will appeal to everyone.
Harrowing, uplifting and upsetting in equal measures.
The interwoven tales of the 4 main characters follow their flight to the coast in an effort to escape both from the horrors of war and persecution as well as from their own past - from the "bad" things they have done or had done to them.
I read this book with mounting horror and sadness, the ending was a shock but, the final pages did lift this to an almost happy ending.
