The Bone Sparrow
I thought The Bone Sparrow was a nice, if very predictable, story of life's hardships. The plot was okay, but wasn't groundbreaking, and was very guess what was going to happen. It was easy to follow, without being unnecessarily simple. The characters and their authenticity was, in my opinion, the forte of the book, with well thought out and subtle character development throughout the book adding a much-needed sense or realism to the book, anchoring it to the real world and stopping it becoming a magical tale about Subhi's 'Night Sea' with the events of the camp simply being an extra to the story line. The writing style is nice, but relatively simple. All in all, I found the book enjoyable, if not the most gripping.
