Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys is an amazing book, showcasing the raw will to survive when all is lost. It follows the story of four unique youths all from different countries and backgrounds and all with an amazing story to tell. I like this book because it shows another side to the war, for both sides. For Germany it shows their willingness to help their own people and to bring them to safety away from the advancing Red Army; and for the Allied forces it shows the cruelty and inhumanity shown by the Russian Troops. Sepetys does a wonderful job of showing the other side of the war for all people.
The fact that she finishes each of the protagonists first chapters with BANG! shows that the war was the same for everyone, no matter where they are or where they're from war is war and everyone is cruel and brutal.

I think it is a very moving book which shows the bonds that can be created between people of different nationalities.
