The sometimes dark and often gripping tale of Wolf Hollow is told through the eyes of a courageous and bold 12-year-old girl, Annabelle. Perceptive and with an understanding beyond her years, she has a strong belief of how people should treat each other in the small community that makes up the world in which she lives. The world that is beautifully depicted by Wolk - you can feel the sun on your back, see the dust in the air and smell the aromas of the hickory nut pie!
The protagonist steers the reader along the difficult path as she takes many risks and makes some very tough decisions to fight for what she believes in. Annabelle is a compassionate role model to us all as she reaches out to those in need, despite what others may have to say about it. Friendship and love is at the heart of this story which reaches an unpredictable climax with tragic consequences. I am intrigued to know about the rest of Annabelle’s journey and meet the woman that she goes on to become, a sequel perhaps Lauren Wolk? Anyone who fell in love with To Kill a Mockingbird will love Wolf Hollow for the same reasons. A must for young people and adults alike.
