Mrs Friedli, Carterton Community College Carnegie Group
I have to admit I started reading Beck with some trepidation.
Although parts of it were very hard to read, and I do think children under 14 should read it only if they and their parents have been properly warned, I thought it was beautifully written.
I loved Beck, such a tough, but vulnerable character. I was very glad that he had some positive relationships along the way, before he met Grace.
My only reservation would be the relationship with Grace herself. It seemed a bit unlikely to me.
Having said that, it was a positive and life-affirming ending after such a gruesome beginning.
