Hattie, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls
The Bone Sparrow
The Bone Sparrow is a very emotive book and it shows one of the biggest international issues in a different life. It is a must-read and leaves the reader with an important message - to stay positive no matter what happens - even though a lot of the readers will never have to experience the issues that the characters of this book have to face.
Throughout the book we’re reminded of the youthfulness of many refugees and the humor of Subhi shines through even though he’s is a very hard situation. He stays happy and uses the hardships that he experiences to have hope and become a better person. He stays optimistic and this made me think about how - if he is so happy throughout his hardships - why can’t I be?
I’m glad this book was shortlisted because I learned a very important lesson from it - happiness.
