The Bone Sparrow
A book that manages to be both heart-breaking and uplifting at the same time.
Raises awareness of the plight of refugees around the world and depicts, at a very human level, the crisis that exists. Subhi is a delightful character and it so desperately sad that he knows no other home than the Refugee camp. One of the main themes of the book is the various relationships that Subhi develops with other characters in the book - perhaps the most surprising and rewarding of these relationships is with Jimmie; a girl from the "outside". I particularly enjoyed the parts of the book where Subhi escapes into his own imagination in order to cope with everyday life.
