The Bone Sparrow
Despite this book being harrowing and realist, it follows a story of a boy which is the story of so many. It opened my eyes, showing me that there is more in the world than my life in my small bubble. So yes, yes it is, horrifying but it is real. I find that most of the emotionally realistic books I read are based on events that have happened, but The Bone Sparrow is happening now.
The story unfolds, and despite it taking a while to get into, the main storyline is perfectly devastating. I loved seeing Subi's optimism brought to him by the night sea. It showed how little emotional escape their is for the children of the detentions centre, yet how they always fight for hope. They fight for their future. They fight for a life, stolen.
Overall, I loved this book and although not the type of book I would usually read, it has most certainly opened my eyes - not only to new reads but also to the ouside world.
