Mrs New, Pilton Shadowers
So Wolf Hollow was my first choice of book from the shortlist this year and it didn't disappoint. A story set in WW2 (but don't be fooled into thinking this is a war story as that is far from the reality), Wolf Hollow deals with the severity of bullying but also the theme of prejudice and discrimination. Due to this, I found myself constantly comparing it to the beautiful style of To Kill a Mockingbird (to find later that this comparison had been made by lots of readers and it even appears as a critical acclaim on the back cover!). I can see why this book has made it onto the shortlist and I'm even more excited to see how the other books compare (The Bone Sparrow is my next choice).
