Jane, A&H Shadowers
The Smell of Other People's Houses
I love this book. It is evocative and dreamlike and stark all at the same time. It is set not long after Alaska has become the latest of the United States of America, a decision that was controversial in the extreme. The four main voices are teenage children of those who were involved in making the decision and tell stories of very different Alaskan backgrounds and lifestyles. Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock's writing is gripping and enthralling, drawing you in to her world.
