Sophie, Carnegie and Cake
The Smell of Other People's Houses
I think that this book has a good chance of winning. The first few chapters were quite compelling and the author used cliffhangers effectively. At first,I didn't know how the characters were linked, because they all lead such different lives. But towards the end of the book, I understood that even though -on the surface- people lives may look very diverse, their lives could be surprisingly similar. However, I think that the ending was too cliche for me. This is because, in my opinion, it was too happy. They had dealt with such big problems during the book, that I didn't think that the ending would be so perfect. The rest of the book was very smartly written, though. My favourite character was Gran, because -during the course of the book- new layers of her character were revealed, that elevated my respect for the book. Overall, I would give it an 8 out of 10.
