Philip Reeve is a fantastic science fiction author whose other books include the 'Mortal Engines' series. In 'Railhead', Reeve imagines a future in which artificial intelligence has taken over human affairs. In the world of 'Railhead', intelligent trains link up a network of planets inhabited by humans, robots and strange humanoid insect creatures. Although it’s a brilliantly imagined world, it takes a while to get into the book because so much of what you read about is strange. There’s even a glossary explaining what things are at the back of the book! But once you get into it, it’s a really good story and a thought-provoking read. Should intelligent robots have similar rights to humans? How much control should we give to machines? What are the implications of creating and sharing vast amounts of data about our everyday lives?
