The Stars at Oktober Bend
I thought that at the beginning, Alice was very mysterious, and piecing together her world was very tricky, but towards the end of the book, she became clearer and more to the point. This could either be interpreted as the author slipping out of character, or as a very subtle, clever developing of Alice’s character. It took me a while to realise that the football they meant was probably Aussie rules, not soccer, which was extremely confusing considering that there were two narrators throughout the course of the book, including Manny, who is the team’s star player.
