The Journey is an amazing book and the illustrations go with it incredibly well. In fact so well, you could remove the text and still vaguely understand the story. Also, in the beginning of the book, something life changing happens and the colours react accordingly which I find very clever.
The style of the illustrations is abstract but not so it is impossible to see what the picture is but not like a photo. I love how she has taken into thought how the characters who are feeling sad are noticeably smaller than the characters that are feeling more evil and superior turn out to be bigger in the book.
I think this is an amazing book and would recommend it to mainly 4-12 year olds as the older you get the more you understand refugees but is still an amazing book to read.
