The Smell of Other People's Houses
The Smell of Other People’s Houses is a book about 4 people’s lives entwining into one magnificent story.
There is Ruth, a girl whose father died in a plane crash and was left with her gran after her mother gave birth to Ruth’s sister, Lily, and then abandoned them. Her life changes dramatically when she meets a mischief of a boy, Ray. She is young and pregnant and needs some serious help that her gran refuses to provide.
Dora, is a girl whose dad is in prison and her mum has a serious drinking problem. She moves in with Bunny, Dumpling and her parents however she worries her stay is only temporary.
Alyce is an amazing ballerina wanting to audition for a scholarship at a prestigious ballet school however this summer she is stuck on her dad’s (her parents are divorced) boat which eats away at her time to practice. When life seems boring, she saves a boy’s life.
Finally, there is Hank. He has stowed away in a boat along with his 2 brothers. When one brother goes missing he sets off to find him.
In my opinion this book is good because it is complex and exciting however this meant when you read over a couple of days it can get confusing and makes it easy to forget characters. I would recommend this book to 11-12 year olds. I rate this book 7/10.
