Emily, The Passionate Bookworms!

The Stars at Oktober Bend

I really enjoyed reading The Stars at Oktober Bend by Glenda Millard - I liked how it was written in a different way, from Alice's point of view. The fact that the poems were mixed in with the rest of the book made it much more interesting. It is very complicated to start off with and I assumed a lot of things that weren't actually true, but as you read on it becomes clearer and clearer; by the end you have found out the entire backstory.

The story is quite slow, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who prefers lots of action and plot twists, however once I got into the story I didn't want to put it down.

I became very attached to the character of Alice - I felt the things that she felt, loved the people that she loved and hated the people that hurt her. This book was written really well in that way.

The ending was much quicker than the rest of the book and it tied the whole thing up really well. The only negative thing I have to say is that I didn't really like the Epilogue. It felt pretty rushed and the quality wasn't as good. I think it would have been better if we had been left to decide what would happen next ourselves.

Overall, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys poetic but realistic stories.
