Mrs K, St John Fisher RC High School

Ok, firstly, I question why this book is actually on the shortlist, given its content. This is surely an adult book in disguise?
Secondly, pushing that major issue aside, I thought the main character was hard to warm to. I could sympathize and pity the life he led but I can't say I really liked him.
As the novel passes the 60 page mark, it does centre around a relationship with a girl in her thirties - again, not really the basis of a children's novel.
overall, I commend meg Rosoff for finishing off a friends novel, but the Carnegie medal isn't the way to recognise Mal Peet.
