The Smell of Other People's Houses
The Smell of Other Peoples Houses is an unique and emotion- packed book which is mainly based around the lives of four children whose parents had left them;
Ruth's dream has been broken, Dora's father is after her, Alyce's future life is dangling on the line and Hank and his brothers have run away for a better future.
The author engages the reader fiercely and even though the story line might be going a little slow at times, the book simply couldn't be put down.
The book not only features the intertwining of the characters but also the hardships and fears they go through and makes us feel sad when the author wants us to empathise with the character's emotions.
It is a reality style based book and truly does give us a taste of living in Alaska.
Despites all the hardhips the characters soon learn to accept what was coming and find a way through it.
Another point is that the narrators of the story are different to what you would usually find;they are warped with the negatives and emphasise the feelings of worthlessness, unloved and poor.
This is why I would give the book a 8/10 and would strongly recommend this book to those who want a reality/drama filled book with a twist of romance.
