Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth

An interesting and sometimes funny book for young children. I have heard many negative reviews, however I think this is down to these people being far older than the target audience. I liked the different stories which take place within - both of saving the earth and the plot involving the grandad and the search for a proper home and a family. While the idea of including real science into the book is good in theory, I found it didn't fit with the science fiction and how these were forced together. I also found some of the science fiction bits rather far out and they did not make sense. While this book is quite good, I find it tries to be too many things at once - using actual science, science fiction and a story of a child whose grandad was taken away, though this does at time heighten the comedy, the main character trying to save the earth while pretending Nothing much is happening. Another thing I would like to note is how the shrinking of the Earth does not make sense as with many other things to do with Sputnik's mission. Overall this is a good book for young readers, however is not so good for older ones. 3/5.
