The Journey is a heartfelt narrative. Illustrated cleverly, the pictures are often metaphors which symbolise different themes: The war is depicted as large black destructive hands; The border guards tower over the family they are stopping, conveying the difference in power between the two parties.
This book has been designed in a way that it can be read both by little children who can access and enjoy the basic storyline, and by older children who are looking for a fun picture book that has a deeper meaning within.
I would rate this book 9/10 because I have greatly enjoyed this book and I feel that it has provoked thought. The only thing that could arguably be improved is the abrupt and unexpected ending that in my opinion makes for a slightly incomplete finish.
