Catherine, Great Marlow school
I am not sure about the relevance of this story to a teen audience. Although the first page intrigued me, it quickly moves on to a horrific experience for Beck which was shocking and sparsely dealt with. Beck finds some sort of solace working with Canadian bootleggers but his meeting with Grace and his periods of nomadic travel just didn't ring true. There is little chance that he would have survived those bouts of homelessness and the 'fairytale' love story is farcical. The writing style is very detached so I didn't feel invested in any of the characters. Sorry Beck, I wanted to love you, but didn't.
