George, Bryanston Carnegie Club

Beck

This books first few chapters were very surprising, yet I was thinking something like this would happen when the Brothers got involved and the children were wary of them and the cellar when they were naughty and how the farming family are horrible to him and treat Beck like an animal and refer to him as the N word. I don't feel like this book is appropriate to be in a children's book contest but the subjects in the book don't soften life and it tells it how it is. I like how the book is written, how the chapters are slit up by decimal points and I find the cover of the book striking with the sharp colours and lightning bolt striking the tree. The book is one of the first books I've ever read that I really want to read and find out what happens to Beck the main character. I would advise this book to the age of 16+ but younger than that it is a bit too controversial.
