The world is not as we know it… Zen Starling lives in a universe where going from planet to planet is commonplace and people get there on intergalactic trains which can think for themselves! Zen uses The Great Network to travel to different planets through the K-gates so that he can steal things, to make a meagre living for himself and his mother, and sister Myka.
When he is followed by the strange girl in the red coat and approached by the mysterious ‘Raven’, Zen’s world is changed forever.
I did not think that I would enjoy this book too much because sci-fi is not really my thing, but it is actually incredible where one author’s inventive mind can take you. I was blown away by the fantastic descriptive detail in the book and although not totally convinced by the plot, I did get swept up in the lives of the characters and really wanted to find out how Zen’s story would develop and I thought the ending was really satisfying.
This is an exciting, fast-paced story, which keeps you guessing right up until the very end, so it will keep you gripped. An excellent Carnegie title!
