The Bone Sparrow

"The Bone Sparrow" is an informative novel about refugees' lives in camps. It is probably one of the best books I have ever read and I love the mystery portrayed in this story.

The story tells of a young boy called Subhi who runs illegal packages within the camp. There are several other characters with unique personalities spread throughout the book.

When a young girl called Jimmie finds the camp, she meets Subhi and makes an unusual friendship that would change both of their views about the world around them.

My favorite character is Jimmie because as you read on it reveals more information about her and why her bone sparrow is used as a good luck charm. This confused me at first because I don't see how wearing a bird's skeleton is seen as good luck, however it takes a turn and it is easy to understand.

It is quite shocking because I didn't know how bad the refugees had it there. Only two toilets, cramped space and limited supplies. This certainly made their lives difficult and I feel for them.

I almost find this book haunting as the properties of sparrows, whether it be a skeleton or one or another inside a house. The mixed messages from myths seem almost cryptic, shrouding the answer from plain sight.

I recommend this book to all ages and it is definitely worth your time. It is an easy read and not very complicated. I love this book, five stars.
