Mrs Bastone, Carnegie Critics
I loved this book! Our heroine Annabelle is a thoughtful and kind child who has befriended Toby, an ex soldier who lives alone on the hills. When Betty comes to live in their village and bullies Annabelle and her brothers life becomes difficult. When Betty disappears the villagers naturally blame Toby and Annabelle is determined to clear his name. This book was a good mix of characterisation and adventure and it made you think.
