Salt to the Sea

Salt to the sea is a fantastic book but with very mature content. It is set during world war two. Throughout the book you are given the perspectives of Joana, Florian, Emilia, Alfred and Ingrid. Florian is on a secret mission, Joana holds a haunting secret, Emilia was traumatized and betrayed, Alfred cant see the bigger picture and Ingrid, well....Throughout the book I began to feel as though I was in each of the characters distinctly different situations and I quickly began to empathise with them. The book has such a heavy ambience I almost felt I was back in 1939. I think this is definetly a book to read as it reminds you not all books have to be conventional and not all endings have to be happy for a book to be successful.
