Salt to the Sea

I have enjoyed reading Salt to the Sea. I loved how it was narrated by four people from four different walks of life and how that showed in their characters. The book depicted how people would react to the war wonderfully and the description was amazing. The storyline was well thought over and as history was entwined with the story telling, it made a wonderful novel. However, one thing that I did not like about the book was that there was an inconsistency in the characters. For example, Florian was extremely closed off and did not like the other characters at the beginning. His character changed too quickly into a welcoming one who enjoyed the company of the others, which I thought didn’t work. Emilia did not want to admit that she was pregnant but when Joana and the others found out, she suddenly accepted the baby, which I didn’t think made sense. Apart from this fault, the book was amazing and I would recommend it.
