Charlie, Chobham Academy Book Group

The Bone Sparrow

I love this book, it is very original, and also very relevant to our time, as there is a huge problem with many refugees being detained and imprisoned just because they don't belong in the country that they have fled to. I am glad that the author wrote all this is the afterword, because I think that this is an important world issue. That put aside, I like how this has been written, and how Subhi is so positive, always believing in Someday, when he will be set free. Jimmie, on the other hand, is in the Outside, but also feels imprisoned by the fact that her mother has died, and she struggles at school because she can't read or write. When Subhi and Jimmie meet, it means that they can both enjoy a story, with Subhi getting to read something new, and Jimmie still being able to be immersed in the book despite her inability to read.
