Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth

This is a delightful book full of life and soul. It is joyous and uplifting, and it has some the most lovely characters I've ever known. it is about a boy called Mellows, who's granddad has a disease called alzheimers, which leads to making him forget things. One day granddad has to go away {to a care home} so Mellows gets taken to a foster family up in the country. One day whilst having tea Sputnik arrives. Everyone else believes Sputnik is a dog but only Mellows sees him for who he really is: an non-earthling. It's now up to them to find the 10 'wonders' of the world that are man made before Sputnik's tribe comes and destroys earth. Throughout this epidemic, Mellows still has a granddad to think about and try to find. Thought was funny, heart warming and cleverly written. Well done Frank Cottrell-Boyce!!
