The Smell of Other People's Houses
I chose this book first because of the enticing title. Then I realised it was set in the 70's and in Alaska and I thought ACE. (I really want to visit Alaska!) A really sweet little book following a Summer in the lives of four teenage characters who live in small town. I really enjoyed the sentiment of the book, and found myself lost enjoying the narrative of many of the pages but if a book is set in a time, it should feel of that time and this book didn't make me feel I was in 1970, it could of been 2017, 1990 or any other time which was odd.
Short and fast paced, I think I wanted to feel more attachment to the characters, which just didn't happen for me. I'm not sure if this is down to my age, as this is definitely a coming of age novel which is maybe why I felt distanced from them. A nice little read, but for me not an amazing one. 7/10 stars for me.
