The Stars at Oktober Bend

The Stars at Oktober Bend was a great book! It looked interesting just from the front, and the back cover didn’t give too much information away, so I didn’t really know what I was picking up. The first half of the book was very confusing and unenjoyable – I had no idea on what was going on and I also found the constant poems a little annoying along with the random, shorter stories being told. When Manny and Alice met, around halfway through, I started to really enjoy it and everything begun to make sense. At the end I was really happy that I had managed to struggle through the first half of the book because the second half definitely made up for it. The last chapters were exciting and unexpected – everything managed to match up in the end. Even the poems weren’t too annoying because the rest of what I was reading was amazing! The last part of the book changed my overall opinion, and I would read the whole book again, even the boring parts, because the rest was so good. Along with the Bone Sparrow, this is one of my favourite books so far, however I think it could have begun a little better.
