Salt to the Sea

This was a brilliant book which kept me glued to every page! The ever shifting narrative kept me intrigued and engaged and in touch with every character. I found it a greatly moving book with a huge range of characters from arrogant Albert who repels me to Emillia who I was with every step of the book. It gave an alternative view of the second world war from fleeing German and Polish citizens as well as German recruit, Florian, who carries the secret of the great Amber Room deemed 8th wonder of the world. At the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustaff, I felt so connected it was a truly horrific, devastating ending that had my heart in my mouth. It was a brilliant book that has a very strong chance of winning I feel.
