Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea is a greatly moving story, about four characters deep in the midst of World War II. It is a tale of loss, tragedy and secrecy, a novel about bravery and sacrifices. Ruta Sepetys takes us on an emotional rollercoaster, a journey which has never been travelled before.

It is so wonderfully written that you become the characters, their world becomes your world, and their story becomes your story. It is a thought-provoking story, one of the biggest maritime disasters in history, yet it is not widely known, and Sepetys draws attention to this with this amazing book.

I love how Sepetys writes the story from different viewpoints, because you know what each individual character is thinking, and you are able to form a better relationship with each and every one of them. I also think that making each character come from a different part of the world and speaking different languages was a genius idea, as it was both more interesting and more realistic and believable. The idea for the novel was also really good, as it was unheard and unused, making it original and more exciting for the readers.

Salt to the Sea is currently my favourite book, together with The Bone Sparrow.
I am sure others will enjoy this fantastic novel as much as I did.
