The Bone Sparrow
I loved this emotional book and couldn't put it down. It follows a refugee called Subhi, who was born in a refugee detention centre. Subhi has never known life outside the fences, until Jimmie, a girl from the outside, sneaks in. Jimmie is a joyful character, but is getting over grief. Jimmie lost her mother and has only her mother's bone sparrow necklace and her mother's book to cling onto. Unable to read herself, Jimmie relies on Subhi to reveal the stories of her ancestors. This is a heart wrenching story, and really makes you think about the refugee crisis. Though this story is fictional there are many people trapped like Subhi.
