Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea is my favourite book so far. Thrilling, boundless and eye-opening; this book truly exposed me to what war would be like for the people who weren't fighting. This is because they were fighting.
They were fighting for their lives - desperate and hungry. Aside from the isolation and desolation these people all felt, they came together as a family would. Through the losses and new life that are taken and given to the world - they stuck together and supported each other. The individuality of all of the characters seemed to be disregarded as they were all treated the same by one another. This isn't a true statement when talking about how the authorities treated as the men were clearly respected more than the women at that time.
The settings were very diverse and, because of the war based themes, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Due to the desperation of, for example, getting on the ship near the end of the story, I felt as if I could feel what these characters were feeling. I would rate this incredible book 9/10 as it was nothing like I'd ever read before. I would recommend this book to anyone and I really enjoyed it.
