The Smell of Other People's Houses
The Smell of Other People's Houses is a really heart-warming story consisting of four different characters (Ruth, Dora, Alyce and Hank) who are all interlinked in someway. I found Ruth's story especially powerful. This book shows how life for different characters in an earlier time period cope with different things. For example it shows how Ruth copes with being sent to live in a convent, how Dora copes with an abusive Dad, how Alyce doesn't want to let her Dad down, and how Hank copes with a missing brother. This story is really compelling and it is brought together in the best way possible way, bringing it all back to how it started with a few changes.
