I can't put to words, all the emotions I had while reading this book. Annabelle is an innocent girl who is living in a small but friendly village. One day, a girl called Betty comes to her safe sanctuary. This girl had come from the city and knows about the cruel world. But she is a cruel girl herself. At first, it was just bullying and a bit of lying. Then after a while, it leads to a horrific accident, which leaves the villagers uneasy. The rumour spreads that the man (Toby) who'd gone crazy after the war, had despised the Germans so much that he wanted to kill him. Betty disappears after this, putting Toby in more trouble. Annabelle tries to keep Toby and the villagers on good terms by doing everything she can. Then on, she grows, mentally and also in her heart. This is an amazing story that isn't all 'explosions' and 'actions' but equally well written.
